Summer Job #1

College Freshmen:  Your first summer job is extremely unlikely to be the key to your future success in that field. In fact, for liberal arts students, I’d argue that a regular, seemingly crappy job is better than a fake “internship” with Uncle Bill, where you’ll spend your summer scanning documents while asking yourself every moment why you made this terrible decision.

Stay busy in the summer. Don’t just sit around; work. And as all your friends will be doing the same thing, it’s not as if you’ll be missing out on anything anyway. What you learn from these so-called crappy jobs is vital to your ability to succeed in a “real” job in the future.
